Step into the lush, green heart of Ghana’s countryside for a truly unforgettable journey from bean to bar. Your adventure begins on a sun-dappled, organic cocoa farm, where the rich aroma of the earth sets the stage. Guided by a local farmer, you will walk beneath the canopy of ancient trees, learning the generational secrets of cultivating the world’s finest cocoa. You will have the unique hands-on opportunity to harvest your own ripe, golden cocoa pods directly from the branches.
After gathering your harvest, you will transition to a state-of-the-art chocolate factory. Here, you will step into the shoes of a master chocolatier, learning how the beans are expertly fermented, roasted, and ground. The experience culminates in a creative workshop where you will process your very own cocoa and craft a personalized bar of rich, smooth Ghanaian chocolate to take home—a sweet, tangible memory of your journey.
Since you will be walking through an active agricultural environment, it is best to wear comfortable, lightweight clothing with long pants and sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or boots to protect against brush and uneven terrain. A sun hat, sunglasses, and eco-friendly insect repellent are also highly recommended for your comfort.
Can children participate in the harvesting and chocolate-making process?
Yes, this is a wonderful, family-friendly activity. Children thoroughly enjoy finding the bright cocoa pods and participating in the hands-on chocolate molding. For safety reasons, a guide or parent will assist younger children when using any harvesting tools on the farm.
How long does the entire bean-to-bar experience take?
The full experience typically takes between 3 to 5 hours. This includes walking through the cocoa groves, harvesting the pods, traveling to the processing facility, and the step-by-step workshop where you design and set your custom chocolate bar.
Will I be able to take my custom chocolate bar home with me?
Absolutely. After you mold and personalize your chocolate bar, it will go through a cooling process to set properly. By the end of the factory session, it will be beautifully packaged for you to take back to your hotel, though we recommend keeping it in a cool place or a climate-controlled vehicle so it doesn’t melt in the tropical heat.
