6-Day Itinerary
Travel to Ghana to enjoy six wonderful days touring the beautiful landscapes, lush rainforests, and scenic routes. Experience cultural diversity, people, food, music, art and more.
DAY 1: ARRIVE TO GHANA
- Upon arrival, your group will be picked up in private transportation from Kotoka International Airport (GACL) and transported to the hotel to check-in and drop off your luggage.
- Subsequently, attend a special lunch or dinner, welcoming you to Ghana and thanking you for choosing Awuni Tours Ghana.
- After your welcome meal, return to the hotel to rest for the day.
DAY 2: ACCRA CITY TOUR (Departs at 8:30 a.m.)
- After breakfast, start the day touring Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park: Ghana’s first president’s resting place.
- Afterwards, visit the Art Center for souvenirs, jewelry, handmade crafts, drums, and drumming lessons.
- Embark on a journey to W.E.B. Dubois Memorial for Pan African Culture.
- Next, explore the James Town neighborhood to learn the history of the fish market on the shores of Accra.
- Visit Independence Square to see the monuments erected during Ghana’s struggle for independence.
- Learn Ghanaian culture at Makola Market where you’ll also be able to purchase African goods and fabrics and visit a tailor to order custom-made Ghanaian attire.
- Finally, return to the hotel to rest for the evening.
DAY 3: HISTORICAL TOUR of ASHANTI REGION (Departs at 7 a.m.)
- After breakfast, check-out of your hotel.
- We will drive 5 hours to Kumasi, Ghana in the Ashanti Region, which is in the middle belt of Ghana. (NOTE: We will stop for breaks along the way.)
- Once in Kumasi, visit a Kente weaving village to learn the history and meanings of Ashanti Kentecloth. Have a hands-on experience making your own Kentecloth.
- Subsequently, explore a cocoa farm to learn the history and significance of Ghanaian cocoa. You’ll even become knowledgeable of how the cocoa shell is used to make authentic black soap.
- Afterwards, visit Ntonso to understand the importance and meanings of the Adinkra Cloth and how it’s designed and made.
- To solidify your cultural, personal, and historical connections to the land of Ghana, go to the village and King’s Palace to have a traditional naming ceremony.
- Finally, you’ll be dropped off at the hotel to check-in and rest for the day.
DAY 4: TOUR SLAVE CASTLES (Departs at 8:30 a.m.)
- Today, you’ll be visiting Elmina and Cape Coast Castles to learn the history of Europeans kidnapping Africans from their homeland and exploiting them in the slave trade.
- As a special welcome back home gift, you’ll have the opportunity to spiritually connect to Ghana by attending the “Door of Return” ceremony. The ceremony is intended to officially return your ancestors’ spirit to the motherland.
- After 6 p.m., celebrate your spiritual experience by participating in a traditional cultural performance.
- Finally, we’ll drop you off at the hotel to rest for the day.
DAY 5: KAKUM NATIONAL PARK (Departs at 8:30 a.m.)
- After breakfast, check-out of your hotel.
- We’ll start the 3-hour drive to Accra, stopping for breaks as needed.
- Along the way, take a hike through the rainforest at Kakum National Park and walk the Canopy Walkway that overhangs 98 ft (30 m) above the forest floor.
- Afterwards, we’ll finish the drive to Accra and drop you off at your hotel to check-in and rest for the day.
DAY 6: AIRPORT DROP OFF (Contingent upon time-of-flight departure)
- Check-out of the hotel.
- Depending on your flight time, finish last minute shopping, have a meal, or relax in Accra.
- Afterwards, we’ll take you to the airport for departure.
